While many UFC fighters, champions included, have a history of missing weight, Jones made sure that he always made the light heavyweight limit of 205 pounds and has never struggled to make weight in any of his bouts.

Now that he is fighting at heavyweight, the more that weight loss isn’t an issue for Jones. He bulked up more than 40 pounds before his heavyweight debut against Gane but did so gradually. Jones vacated the 205-pound title in 2020 and didn’t return to action until March 2023. The three-year period at which he bulked up enabled Jones to look like a natural heavyweight against Gane and that was one of the keys to winning the fight.

With Jones moving up to heavyweight, weight loss is no longer an issue for him. His concern right now is to keep his current weight and make sure that the extra pounds do not affect his performance. Based on what we saw against Gane, Jones has made a successful transition from light heavyweight to heavyweight.
