Nielsen, a global leader in audience measurement, data and analytics, has revealed its latest Virtual Medal Table (VMT) forecast for the 2024 Games. Its content data business unit Gracenote takes available data from key global and continental competitions since the 2021 Summer Games to determine medal forecast for each participating nation.

According to Gracenote, Australia is expected to improve its performance during the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, again winning more than 40 medals. It’s projected that Australia will win 48 medals in Paris 2024, with 13 gold medals, 22 silver medals and 13 bronze medals, surpassing the 46-medal haul in 2021. Australia is expected to finish in 5th overall position in Gracenote’s VMT, trailling the U.S., China, Great Britain and this year’s hosts, France.

The forecast reflects the country’s improved performance since the disappointments in 2012 and 2016, with today’s Olympians, in particular Australia’s world-class swimmers, will translate into a record-breaking medal haul at the 2024 Olympic Games.
