Conor McGregor is celebrating his birthday in true style, relishing his unfriendly neighbours’ ultimate demise on the biggest European stage… he even made a quick €1 million in the process.

Ireland’s favourite son Conor McGregor certainly wouldn’t have had any problem cheering on the Spanish when they came up against England in the European Championships Final.

McGregor, who has been forced to delay his highly-anticipated return to the UFC Octagon through yet another injury setback, has been channelling his signature competitive spirit into football in recent weeks, first placing a bet on Cristiano Ronaldo to emerge as the competition’s top scorer, and now for Spain to finish as the eventual winners. Of course, with no goals in five appearances for his national side, Cristiano Ronaldo bowed out of EURO 2024 without leaving his usual world-class mark, costing his friend McGregor a tasty sum in the process.

But, the Irish UFC star, who has become something of a shrewd gambler in recent years, opted to cover his bets with another side pot of his own, placing €83,500 EUR on La Roja to go all the way in this year’s competition… and at 11/1 odds he was set to make a huge return.

You can always count on England to fall at the final hurdle, and McGregor took to his social media accounts to relish in England’s enduring failures, turning a 83,500 EUR bet into more than 1 million EUR ($1.6 million AUD) for Spain’s record-breaking fourth UEFA EURO win.

The Spanish side took an early lead in the second half of the European tie, and England duly responded through a Cole Palmer strike with 20 minutes to go. But Spain, who had won all seven of their previous matches to reach the final, turned the screw and capitalised on another lethargic England performance for at least some more years of hurt.
