While some golf driving ranges go for glitz, glamour and jugs of beer, Port Noarlunga takes a decidedly more sedate approach, but one that it should be applauded for. That’s because the driving range awaiting you here is, essentially, a field.
But that’s a good thing, because it means you play on natural grass and not the synthetic stuff that you probably won’t experience during an actual game of golf. You also hit real golf balls as opposed to range-specific balls you may find at other driving ranges. Finally, you’re always given a warm welcome by David Galloway, the range’s PGA Professional, who is always more than happy to provide you with some tips or to give you one-on-one lessons.

Drummond Golf Driving Range

Drummond Golf Driving Range is, as you might expect, associated with the nationwide golf store. This particular franchise location has managed to attach itself to a huge public driving range that offers 42 bays. 34 of those are automatic tee up bays and the 21 bays on the lower of the two levels are kept undercover to allow play no matter the weather.
Drummond Golf’s driving range is also fully floodlit and uses full flight range balls, rather than premium golf balls, although claims these to be the next best thing.
If you find hitting the ball harder than you expect, two PGA Professionals are on hand to offer tuition and once you’ve found your rhythm, you can make use of the store’s club-fitting service so you’re well equipped for a return visit.

North Adelaide Golf Course

Aside from being one the best golf courses in the city, North Adelaide also has its own makeshift driving range. By this, we mean the course takes the 1st hole of the championship-quality South Course and places markers at every 50 metres so that you can practice your swing on genuine Santa Ana Couch grass.
The club also implements an unofficial ‘official’ rule that says whoever hits the ball the shortest distance among a group, has to pay up for the first round at the 19th Hole Bar, conveniently located just metres away.

Little Para Golf Course

Further north from North Adelaide is Little Para Golf Course. Not only do you get access to a 9-hole Par 3, but also a 300 yard driving range with 8 undercover bays.
Prices for buckets are some of the lowest around (just $16 for 100 balls) and if you don’t fancy hitting off the synthetic grass, there are two fully-grassed areas that you can hit from instead.

West Beach Parks Driving Range

The West Beach Parks Golf Park is a huge complex in the coastal suburb of West Beach. It’s where you’ll find the Westward Ho Golf Course and the aforementioned Drummond driving range. West Beach Parks also has its own driving range which comes agonisingly close to being best driving range in Adelaide (probably behind Drummond).
There are 16 bays to swing from and golfers of all ages and abilities are more than welcome to have a go. You strikes balls from artificial mats, but they’re of a high enough quality that they’re not a detriment to your game. For sun-drenched swinging with a sea breeze, West Beach Parks can’t be beat.

Valley View Driving Range

Valley View offers the one of the best setups in Adelaide for beginner golfers. Not only is it where you’ll find a Par 3 course where the longest hole is 146m, but it also hosts a driving range to help you further improve your skills.
You’re presented with plenty of space to hit balls as hard and as far as possible, although you’ll be politely asked to only practice balls if going full Happy Gilmore, as a motorway lies on the other side of the net.

X-Golf Marion
