Alex Pereira’s Weight Loss: The UFC Champion Cutting For Titles

At 6″4 tall, Alex Pereira was a massive fighter in the UFC middleweight division. With a walking weight of 220 to 230 pounds, it was incredible how Pereira never missed weight while fighting at the 185lb division.

However, there were speculations that he was having weight-cut problems during his first bout with Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. That was because Pereira used up almost all of the allotted time to get to the weigh-ins. But to everyone’s surprise, he had no issues whatsoever in making weight.

Pereira tipped the scales at a trim and ready 184.6 pounds on his first attempt, erasing all doubts that he had issues making weight.

After beating Adesanya at UFC 281, Pereira’s mentor, former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira, revealed their plans to move up in weight because Pereira has experienced difficulties in weight cutting.

“Eventually I think he’s going to want to do that because the weight cut is a big cut for him. He doesn’t complain. He just keeps going and doing it well because he likes to be 184 and he felt good. But he can do 205 for sure and eventually, it might happen because if he goes up, there are super fights, big fights. I think it’s a possibility.”

Teixeira was prophetic with his words because here we are with Alex Pereira as the UFC light heavyweight champion. Gone are the days when people would think that the weight cut is the fight before the fight for Alex because so far, he’s had no issues cutting weight to make 205 pounds.
